The next meeting of the Orleans County Democratic Committee will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 7:00 PM. (There will be no meeting in February.) Please contact a committee member for more information if you are a Democrat that is interested in attending. We welcome you to get involved!

Democrats Serving New York in 2017

New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo outlines his plans for a stronger, better New York in his 2017 State of the State. Proposals include options for Tuition-Free College, Affordable Child Care, Reducing the Costs of Local Government, Buying American, Prescription Drug Affordability, Modernizing the Voting System, Ride Sharing, and much more.

New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman serves as the guardian of the legal rights of the citizens of New York. His web site has information on Proposed Voting Reforms, Tips to Avoid Getting Scammed,  Homeowner Protections, Legal Actions, Initiatives, and Resources for the people of New York.

January 2017 Training Events

The New York State Democratic Rural Conference has provided information on two training events that will be taking place in the very near future.

1. The Democratic Women of the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes is sponsoring a “Candidate and Supporter” training workshop in Corning on January 14 from 1:00-6:00 PM. It will take place at the Corning Radisson Hotel, 125 Dennison Parkway East, Corning, NY, 14830. The conference registration cost is $30 per person with a special discount being offered for new and returning members of DWSTFL. It will feature presentations and curriculum from Leslie Danks-Burke, Marci Daniels and Denise King. Register at http://www.DemWomenSTFL.com. The DRC is a co-sponsor of this event.

2. The New York State Working Families Party, The Rural Caucus of the New York State Young Democrats, the Cortland County Democratic Committee and the St. Lawrence County Democratic Committee are sponsoring a candidate training workshop to recruit, train, and elect the next generation of progressive leaders. The “Running to Win” workshop will be held from 11:30AM until 6:30PM on Saturday, January 21 (the day immediately following Inauguration Day) at the Cortland County Democratic Committee Headquarters, 129 Port Watson Street, Cortland, NY 13045. There will be an optional preliminary training session held the night before at the same location. Organizers are also working to develop a social function to coincide with this training event that will be held in Cortland. The professional staff of the Working Families Party will offer the training that has been based on the highly regarded Wellstone Training Program. There is no cost for this training workshop but attendees will be responsible for the cost of their lunch.
