Nick Stankevich and Nate McMurray are active Democratic Candidates for the NY-27 Congressional office. The following people have withdrawn their candidacy: Sean Bunny, Tom Casey, and Joan Elizabeth Seamans.
Candidates (current and new) are welcome to keep us up to date on their events. We’ll try to keep a running list here of local events (those within a 30-40 minute drive) that you can attend to find out more about each candidate. Please engage and support our candidates as we work towards replacing Chris Collins next year.

The page on Committee Meetings has information about our meetings.
Some registered Democrats that live in the Town of Gaines received postcards in the mail about our endorsed candidates Susan Heard and Joseph Grube. These postcards were not sent by the Orleans County Democratic Committee. Dalton Mitchell (Dem), son of Debra Mitchell (No party affiliation; Conservative candidate for Gaines Town Clerk), says that he created the postcards.
For this fall’s election 2 Gaines residents expressed interest in running for Town of Gaines office as registered Democrats: Joyce Riley (was Ind., now Dem.) for Councilperson and Toni Plummer (Dem) for Town Judge. No Democrat expressed an interest in running for Gaines Supervisor, Clerk, or 2nd Councilperson.
The Town of Gaines Democrats held a caucus and were happy to nominate the 2 Democrats. With no other Democratic candidates to support for town office the caucus members were then free to nominate (or not) whomever they saw fit. Susan Heard and Joseph Grube were so nominated by the majority of the Democrats who voted in our Town of Gaines caucus. Though both are active Republicans they have reached out and engaged local Democrats at several of our events: including our summer picnic, fall dinner, and candidate meet and greets.
We encourage more Orleans Democrats to consider running for office, joining our town Democratic Committees (where we have many openings), and attending our meetings and public events. Make the Orleans County Democratic Party YOUR Democratic Party by getting involved!
