Village of Albion: 2018 Election

Joyce Riley – Candidate for Mayor
Sandra Walter – Candidate for Trustee
Jason Dragon – Candidate for Trustee

We are candidates for the March 20, 2018 election in the Village of Albion. We recognize that times change and the Village of Albion today is shouldering an unfairly high burden of taxes – which has depressed property values and driven residents away. Too many basic services are still being provided by the village instead of being provided by the county and towns. We will change this situation and make the village a more attractive place to live and a more affordable location for investment. We ask for your support and together we can ensure a prosperous future for the Village of Albion.

Over the next few months we will be holding a number of events to engage the community. Please feel free to contact any candidate with issues or concerns.

It’s Time for Early Voting in New York State

Excelsior State Logo

Dear Fellow New Yorker,

Voting is the cornerstone of our democracy. We should be making it easier for people to vote, not putting up barriers. Unfortunately, New York remains one of the few states that does not offer early voting, and even requires an excuse to request an absentee ballot.

It’s time to change that. I am advancing legislation to fund voting reforms, including the opportunity to vote early in every county across the state, but I need your help to make it happen.

Sign the petition and tell the State Legislature to enact early voting.

This legislation will allow New Yorkers to vote in-person 12 days leading up to Election Day, including at least five hours on weekends. It’s part of my Democracy Agenda — a bold set of reforms to modernize New York’s antiquated voting system and ensure our elections remain free and transparent.

No one should have to choose between exercising their sacred right to vote and going to work, school, or a personal commitment. It’s time to join the 37 other states that already have early voting and make sure more voices are heard in our democratic process.

Show your support for early voting now.

Ever Upward,

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo

Orleans County Forum: NY-27 Candidate Forum

NY-27 CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE FORUM

The Orleans County Democratic Committee is organizing a NY-27 Congressional Candidate public forum on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the QWL Building on 3595 State School Road, Albion, NY 14411.

Nick Stankevich and Nate McMurray are active Democratic Candidates for the NY-27 Congressional office. (The following people have withdrawn their candidacy: Sean Bunny, Tom Casey, and Joan Elizabeth Seamans.) Both Nick and Nate have confirmed their intention to participate. Our county committee has made no endorsement in this race and looks forward to hearing equally from all candidates.

This will be a great opportunity for the residents of Orleans County and the surrounding area to find out more about the impressive list of Democratic candidates that are currently running to represent us in the United States House of Representatives.

WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!

2018 Winter Forum Report

We would like to thank everyone who turned out last night for our 2018 Winter Educational Forum!

And a special thanks goes to Patrick Jordan, President of NYS Young Democrats, who came up from New York City to speak at our forum. Take a moment to visit their website at nysyd.org to find out more about their work. We are looking to support them in establishing a chapter in Orleans County, so send an email to info@orleansdemocrats.com if you are a young Democrat who would like to get involved!

The New York State Young Democrats are the official youth arm of the New York State Democratic Committee. The New York State Young Democrats represent young democrats between the ages of 16-36 living in all of New York’s 62 counties. Members of the organization strive to make a positive difference in the community by working within the political process and upholding the principles of the Democratic Party. The membership base reflects the broad diversity of New York and the party, including high school students, college students, young workers, professionals and families.

Along with Patrick, Jim Renfrew moderated a panel of Kenny Capurso, Andrea Newman, and Mark Steffenilla (Genesee County Young Democrats) through a range of topics and audience questions.

And we were grateful to have in attendance 4 of the 5 announced Democratic candidates in the NY-27 congressional race: Joan Elizabeth Seamans, Nick Stankevich, Sean Bunny, and Tom Casey

It was an excellent opportunity to visit with the candidates and find out more about their positions. Keep an eye on our website, where we will keep a running list updated with candidate events throughout the spring.
